Description

Resting on a crystalline surface of clear quartz, several cubanite crystals occur as short, stout prisms displaying the characteristic metallic luster of this mineral.

The crystals, elongated and well defined, shows distinct longitudinal striations typical of this copper–iron sulfide. The bronze to dark golden-brown color contrasts with the pale translucent quartz matrix, which locally displays subtle iridescent reflections caused by thin alteration films.

Cubanite (CuFe₂S₃) is a relatively uncommon copper-iron sulfide, typically associated with chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite in polymetallic ore deposits.
