Description

Excellent micromount of rhodonite from the classic Gambatese Mine (Val Graveglia, Liguria, Italy), displaying dense aggregates of pale to vivid pink crystals composed of short prismatic and bladed individuals, tightly intergrown in sparkling clusters. The crystals show a vitreous to slightly pearly luster, with well-defined edges and sharp terminations.

The rhodonite forms drusy coatings and small rosettes lining the cavity, locally associated with whitish carbonate crystals (calcite or dolomite) developed as delicate acicular sprays, providing an attractive contrast between the translucent pink manganese silicate and the creamy white gangue.

Color saturation, crystal freshness, and fine lamellar habit are characteristic of the best Gambatese material, a world-class locality for manganese silicates. The specimen displays a very rich micro-texture, highly suitable for macro photography and crystallographic study of rhodonite habits.
